In 2022, University of Dayton students from multiple majors partnered with local non-profits to investigate troubling legacies around the production and consumption of cane sugar.
We will celebrated sweetness through locally-sourced desserts and a diverse sweets menu curated by UD dietetics student Chef Christina Green in consultation with London Coe of Peace on Fifth.
All proceeds from our Empty Bowls campaign benefited Unified Power, a Dayton organization focusing on Black businesses and enterprises to “create community pride and self-sustainability through a holistic approach.” Executive Director Kenya Akbar and he board generously spent time with us to share personal food histories and contribute to this year’s zind. Our drink purchases once again went to Latinos Unidos, a non-profit organization created to uplift local and regional Hispanic and Latinx communities. Thanks once again to The Dayton Foodbank and the UD’s Hanley Sustainability Institute student leaders, for helping us create a zero waste event.
